Almost all those who lead worship at Horeb use the readings from the lectionary on which to base service and sermon. The lectionary is cyclical, which means that the same readings come up every  three years; so we have now used them quite a few times. So, at least from now until Advent (the last Sunday in November) we shall be doing something different. Each Sunday we shall be looking in some depth at one of the parables Jesus used. This will be used for reading, sermon and Junior Church, and there will be appropriate activities, which will not always only involve children! So be prepared! All those leading worship during this period have been asked to follow this plan.

The list of parables, with the relevant texts, and the themes which we expect to arise from them are given for the whole twelve weeks in a table here. You may wish to think about them beforehand; if you have ideas or resources which will help any of the services along, please speak to the person who will be leading worship on that day.

James and Thomas Salsbury represented Wales at the URC's Children's Assembly in Loughborough at the beginning of July.  Here's what they thought of it!

On Friday July 2nd we travelled to Loughborough (via Newtown as James had a school hockey tournament). We had been invited to represent the Wales synod to attend Children's Assembly. When we arrived it was time for tea. It was a long walk as Loughborough University is massive! After that we talked about Vision 2020 and what we think the Church will be like in 10 years time - also what we want the Church to be like in 10 years time.

The boiling water heater, capable of producing endless hot drinks, has been especially praised. Everyone should make themselves familiar with the instructions for using it and the dishwasher. There are new practices regarding tea towels and waste. The final cost is about £24,500, the majority of which has been received from grants. Now we must learn to use our facilities really well for the benefit of church and community.
